KU wins final Border Showdown series, makes Big 12 Tournament

With a solid outing by freshman pitcher Wes Benjamin, the Kansas baseball team won game two of the final Border Showdown series against Missouri on May 18 at Hoglund Park.

With the 6-3 victory and Texas Tech’s loss to K-State, the Jayhawks clinched a spot in next week’s Big 12 tournament in Oklahoma City. They also won the series against the Tigers.

Benjamin went 7 1/3 innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three. Freshman outfielder Michael Suiter was clutch for the Jayhawks going 2 for 4 on the evening with a pair of two-out RBI’s.

The victory Friday night improves the Jayhawks record to 22-31 overall and 7-15 in Big 12 play, and drops Missouri to 27-26 overall and 9-14 in conference play.

The Jayhawks can clinch the 7th seed in the Big 12 tournament by completing a sweep of the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
